If you are purchasing a new home, villa, apartment or are buying off the plan, it's recommended that you obtain a handover inspection to ensure you get what you paid for and that the building works have been completed to an acceptable standard.
Why Do I Need a Handover Inspection?
This inspection will identify any defects or incomplete works that have been undertaken by the building contractors. It is always better to identify these things before the final payment has been made and before you or the tenants take occupation of the building.
What Do Inspections Help With?

Helping in Maintaining Standards
With any new construction, it is recommended that as the building works progress, they are progressively checked to find any defects that may be concealed by other works or construction projects that could potentially cause problems in later years.
These Work Stages Include
Slab stage
— Finished concrete slab is checked for level, and that any deviations are within the acceptable standards and tolerances.
Frame Stage
— The framing is checked in accordance with Australian-standard 1684.2 and the engineers design requirements as details on the approved plans. Load bearing walls, lintels, bracing, the orientation of overhanging frames and anchors etc.
Lockup Stage
— Checking to ensure roofing is free of defects and that the windows and doors are installed with correct fixings and the frame is plumb and straight.
Fixing Stage
— Waterproof membranes in showers and wet areas are inspected to ensure they comply with the building code. Check plaster to walls, ceilings and cornice to determine if they were installed to acceptable standards and tolerances.
Handover Stage
— Check that all works have been completed in a workmanlike manner and that all items specified in the contract documents have been supplied and installed to acceptable standards and tolerances.
